The morning started early, and not in a good way.
I woke up to news that Yoani and Reynaldo were summoned to the infamous police station of 21 and C, Vedado.
I know that place.
Very well.
That's where you are called for all sort of "advice" and pressures. Even sometimes they will try to break you, and to turn you into a snitch. It takes a lot to break some people, others are easily broken.
Yoani and Reinaldo are not that kind. They stand firm and tall, and Theo, their son, knows that.
They will be accused of something vague, most likely of buying or selling items in the black market to try to mask the political nature of the case, as they did with Gorki.
They will be harassed, because the tyranny of Cuba cannot accept that they are dignified human beings that refuse to bend in front of a tyrant. If they had some culture, they would realize that Yoani and Reynaldo do not salute the olive green cap of the tyrant, the same way that Wilhelm Tell did not salute the red cap of a brutal ruler, in the Switzerland of their temporary exile.
To the chagrin of the tyrant, they returned to Cuba. And that's something that the dictatorship is not ready to forgive and forget.
Yoani and Reynaldo do not want the forgiveness of the government. They are standing high for the rights of all Cubans.

Unfortunately, Yoani and Reynaldo, and also Theo, have to be tested this way, for some dubious Thomases to realize of what kind of wood that family is made.

We are ready to rock the world for Yoani and her family, the same we did for Gorki and his.

It's a wonderful morning because I am free, and I do not plan to relinquish my freedom anytime soon. As Geddy Lee sang time ago: my mind is not for rent to any god or government. And much less would it be out for grabs to the government of a fake god.

It's a wonderful feeling to tell Obamunistas in their faces that I disapprove and dislike all that their idol "represents" for them. It's a wonderful feeling not to have to bend your neck in servitude to a guy who arrived where he did through trickery and lies.

It's wonderful, simply wonderful, to be free. And it's even more wonderful to use my freedoms to stand up against what I consider to be a fraud, a Manchurian candidate, and worse, a storefront Marxist.

To all of those who feel cheerful today because they have a perfect unknown (because hey, they don't know him either!) getting a copy of the front door key for the White House and a rent free lease for the next four years, a little reminder: fidel castro is very happy today, and Chavez, and so many other unsavory characters. Not a very good company with whom to cheer up and celebrate.

La multa
Hace sólo unos minutos, Gorki Aguila se dirigió a efectuar el pago de la multa de seiscientos pesos que se le impuso durante la farsa judicial de agosto. En "medios" como se llama popularmente en Cuba a las monedas de cinco centavos. Doce mil medios, para que los funcionarios de "banca y justicia" se entretengan contando y justifiquen su salario del día. Y naturalmente para darle un toque de humor a la tragedia, no faltaría más. Esto es lo que llamo arte, el happening de hacerle justicia a la injusticia, con sus propios medios, ironizando.

Gisela Delgado Sablón -una de las Damas de Blanco su esposo es el disidente Héctor Palacios- hizo una campaña para recoger monedas de cinco centavos en las bibliotecas independientes para tener el cambio suficiente para el pago de la multa. Me puedo imaginar la pregunta lanzada al vuelo en la Habana ¿tendrás cambio para un peso en medios?

Acompañado por Ciro, guitarrista leader de Porno Para Ricardo y La Babosa Azul, Hebert, el bajista de PPR, los bloggers Claudia Cadelo, Yoani Sánchez, Lia Villares, y Orlando Luis Pardo Lazo, Gorki se personó con su carga y la puso bajo las narices de los atónitos burócratas el precio que
pone a su libre voluntad de hacer música la madrastra raulista de la represión cubana.

La ley establece como minima unidad para el pago de multas la moneda de cinco centavos.
Lo curioso es que estas monedas de metal no ferroso, pues son acuñadas burdamente en aluminio, quizas tengan mas valor en el mercado de metales que como instrumento de cambio, dada la depauperacion económica de Cuba. Y nada tiene de extraño que personas con mas valor que el que les asigna el cambio esclavista comunista de la sociedad se burlen de sus instrumentos de represión con un devaluado instrumento económico. De haber sido admitido el centavo como unidad de pago, la multa hubiese sido resarcida en kilos prietos, sin duda alguna, aunque en defensa del humilde y ya casi desaparecido centavo,
los dinosaurios de la Habana no valen un kilo.

El Proyecto de Bibliotecas Independientes de Cuba, hace un llamado a la población cubana y en especial a todos los admiradores de Gorki, director de la Agrupación Porno para Ricardo.

Hacer una colecta de dinero para que el joven roquero cubano pueda pagar su multa de 600 pesos cubanos a las autoridades, antes del 30 de Octubre del 2008, sanción impuesta por el tribunal municipal de Playa y ratificada por el tribunal provincial, por el delito de desobediencia.

La contribución mínima que se exhorta a la población y a los seguidores de Gorki, es de 5 centavo moneda nacional, sabiendo la precaria situación económica que atraviesa nuestra nación, debido a la escasez de hace más de medio siglo y que hoy es aún peor, pero debemos dar muestra de solidaridad y de apoyo entre nosotros los cubanos de a pie.

Los que desean contribuir con este gesto noble y solidario con el joven roquero, pueden acercarse a nuestras bibliotecas independientes.

Como los comunistas nos joden a nosotros pues nosotros también los jodemos a ellos, hoy hemos pagado la famosa multa de 600 pesos en monedas de 5 centavos (medios) o sea unos 12 000 medios, fruto de la colecta hecha por las bibliotecas independientes y el aporte de los amigos Fueron debidamante contados durante dos horas por los "pobres" dependientes del Centro de Control de Multas de Playa. Al principio nos daba un poco de pena con ellos porque probablemente no tuvieran mucho que ver con las mariconerías del sistema de justicia y de la seguridad del estado pero luego que alguno llamó a la policía ya no nos dió mas pena.

Los oficiales al parecer no estaban informados de lo que se trataba y se limitaron a hacer su trabajo "soft" de rutina, pedir el carnet, apuntar los nombres, decir que no tiren fotos, etc...afortunadamente no les dió por hacer el trabajo "hard" de rutina o sea dar unos tonfasos, romper algunas camaras y meter preso a "tout le monde". Al final debe ser dificil ser un policia afable (yo nunca he conocido uno) imagínense tener que cumplir todo tipo de ordenes estúpidas e impopulares y ser el mas odiado del lugar. Creo habría sido mejor que hubieran ayudado a contar los medios pero a lo mejor no saben contar, no se.

Así entre el chin chin de los 12 000 medios sobre las mesas, la mirada de los policias y nuestros chistes pasamos una tarde divertida aquí en las entrañas del monstruo.

Amid rumors that B'rak Hussein Obama could really be B'rak Hussein Cundo, the spawn of Francisco Cundo from Sagua la Grande, the musical preferences from the One, and his gaze lost into the future of his Stalinist inspired propaganda, lies a thing The O-Bah-Matronic said and it's being skipped over by the media: his 1 million member strong civil forces, "as powerful as the US military", in his own words.

Let's see.... He's proposing the creation of an "unmilitary" army, whose purpose is neither very clear, nor has it being fully explained.
First question: don't we have enough military, national guard, and extremist militias already?
Second question: is this another extremist militia?
Third question: who will command this force?
4- who will be its foot soldiers?
5- will they be armed?
6- what authority will they have?
7- what will trigger their mobilization and action?
8- will civilians be compelled to obey them? (the word obey is in a lot of stalinist-remembrance posters in this city of Washington DC)
9- will that force's powers overwrite the powers of the armed forces and the law enforcement agencies?
10- what will be their (still non defined) function in society?

In a society when gun control is proposed by the same kind of proponents of this large civilian army, where freedom of speech is trampled by street volunteers and preachers of Obamunism, who area already talking as if the One were enshrined in the White House, and who are suggesting that an outcome not favorable to the Oh-Bah-Candidate is tantamount to foul play with dire consequences for the country at large, this is worrisome.

It is just legitimate to demand to know if such a force is already formed, and to demand from the federal government and investigation over this secret "army". Last thing we all want is to be hostage of a "force" than can literally abduct citizens and conduct their own trials and apply their own sentences. We do not need to be controlled by an army of chivatos, or to be subject to intimidation by an army of thugs, or to be blackmailed into Obamunism by the threat of deadly riots.

I certainly hope that the authorities are looking into this threats, and that if on Tuesday the county is put in the hands of an unknown whose plans for change are also secret, and whose civilian army can control you, there would be some legal mechanism to stop the madness before it becomes Orwellian.

On the other side of the Straits, Castro is licking his whiskers. His trademark terror application of "civilian force" is proposed to be applied in the United States and it goes on without a hitch. Do not be surprised if members of the Obamakorps knock at your door, abduct you, and next thing you know is that you wake up in an interrogation room in Villa Marista, Havana. Castro's loving this so much that he will appear in public after the elections. Don't tell us we didn't warn you.

We have gotten word that there's a plan to have the old dinosaur to wear his trademark green fatigues and come out with some provocative speech after the American elections. Rumors in Havana have that fidel castro is playing with these two domestic terror scenarios in the USA:

One: if B'rak Hussein Obama is elected, castro will instigate violence against him to provoke turmoil in this country, through inflammatory declarations, planted agents and a wide propaganda effort. The authorities should be following fidel castro's agent's trails in this country, and detaining them before they can commit any crimes. They should also look at the elements who instigate violence and bag them before it's too late.

Two: If B'rak Hussein Obama does not win the elections, he will instigate racial riots all around the land, to give McCain and Palin -he's real enemies- an inauguration gift that not many people would like: a country engulfed in flames and violence.

We should never forget that famous phrase uttered by Nikita Khruschev: "we will bury you". Fidel Castro is willing to do so, and believe me when I say he knows no limits when it's a matter of accomplishing evil.
He's betting for a surge of fascism, extremism, racism, xenophobia, and for violence to destabilize this country from within. His Manchurian candidate is for him no more than a pawn in his game.

We are against all sorts of political terror and political crimes against democracy, and therefore, we are denouncing that an attempt to destabilize this country is being hatched in Havana. We have confirmations that Castro's health has improved enough to have him plotting in the shade, and that his brother has provided a great front for it. We will soon see a re-arming of the Cuban military, and also strategically deployments in the region, coupled with a more repressive fascist front inside the island, designed to choke the population.

Also, if fidel castro doesn't authorize a hit against American democracy, he then will use whoever gets to power to create an unstable situation through rumors and propaganda: Obama will lend him a hand, which he will take as legitimization. He could even create a climate in which anti-castroites could be deported to Cuba to be judged and jailed. But he will play Obama like a second hand fiddle, like he did with Carter and Clinton. He's counting on the age of McCain and the inexperience of Sarah Palin to also create an unstable play field if they get elected. Talk about Evil now.

En el día de hoy, 20 de octubre, Día Nacional de la Cultura Cubana o algo así, la artista plástica Sandra Ceballos, creadora del proyecto-galería Espacio Aglutinador, se dirigía a las puertas de la oficina del director del Consejo Nacional de Las Artes Plásticas en 3ra y 14, Miramar. La acompañaban René Esteban, artista plástico; Claudio Fuentes, fotógrafo; Ciro Díaz y Renay Kayrus, guitarrista y baterista respectivamente de la agrupación-musical-no-gubernamental Porno para Ricardo; y Javier Castro, el bala, creo que escritor... Muchos de los "involucrados" de la exposición suspendida "Curadores, go home", no pudieron presentarse por cuestiones de trabajo, que en Cuba la gente normal trabaja y un lunes a las 9am es horario laboral de todos.
Después de esperar un rato amenazando no ser recibidos, alguien llamó a Sandra y le comunicó que ella sería atendida por el director del Consejo, únicamente sola, mañana a la misma hora.

El Gobierno cubano una vez mas, con el fín de frustrar toda actividad o manifestación que represente la libertad individual, ha lanzado por mediación del consejo nacional de las artes plásticas, una nota tergiversadora que ataca a la galeria "Espacio Aglutinador" que representa la destacada artista de la plástica Sandra Ceballos donde ibamos a actuar como artistas invitados.

Obviamente, por la parte que nos tocaba a nosotros, iba a ser un show todo lo irreverente y antipolíticamente anticastrista que nos diera la gana y he ahí el punto de molestia de la autocracia. A nosotros también nos molestan los shows propagandísticos y con contenido abiertamente político que ustedes, señores comunistas, le dan a toda actividad artística y no-artística a lo largo y ancho de todo este archipiélago a la hora y en el momento que les de la gana ¿no creen que es justo que nos toque a nosotros de vez en cuando?

La nota es manipulante, aberrada, decadente y con un marcado sentido retro estalinista-castrista. Nos creemos, por sentirnos personas libres, con el derecho de invitar a quién nos de la gana a nuestro espectáculo, además, por ser un espectaculo a puertas abiertas como toda exposición normal de artes plásticas y música, también estaba invitado cualquier personal de la seguridad del estado o del partido que atinase a pasar por el lugar.

With Obama all, against Obama nothing.
Just a few minutes ago I witnessed an incident during which some Obamaniacs in their Obamachic t-shirts screamed: Racist! to some folks just because they expressed themselves as not supportive of the Sunbama. But I had seen that before. What I hadn't seen before was what was in the back of the Obama-shirts. An image of cheo huevera with the phrase "el guerrero de America". I spent a few minutes looking for the design online but I haven't seen it. If somebody comes across it please let me know and I would post it for all to see.

We already know that what Obama plans is a quasi totalitarian regime, with the help of his supporters who see fit to yell at people just because they don't like their idol and their are gutsy enough to tell them. Imagine what they could do with a bit of power in their hands.

1- Committees for the Defense of the Obammunist Revolution
2- Paramilitary or para-police brigades to stifle dissent.
(these first two will amount to giving power to thugs and snitches to control the opposition)
3- Ban freedom of thought, expression, assembly. (con la revolucion todo, contra la revolucion nada)
4- Ban guns. (¿armas para que?)
6- Total control of the media (that's virtually accomplished)
7- Collaboration in judicial matters with totalitarian regimes such as the castros', incuding Chavez, his cousin's Kenya, Putin's Russia, China, and Iran. This is particularly important because as per request of the Cuban authorities, any of us who "doesn't behave" could be shipped extradited to Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and who knows where.
8- School indoctrination (already happening)

We are in presence of another fascio-communist regime in the making, via "elections" as Chavez proved was as feasible method. Soon, we might have to go underground to keep on publishing our counterrevolutionary blog (hey, the Obamunistas call themselves revolutionaries!)

We will have to resort to posting from public libraries, churches, foreign embassies, and foreign press bureaus.
I really don't know how's that people don't see the writing on the wall. It couldn't be bigger. Literally.

This past Sunday I took a drive through Obama Country, in Northern Virginia.
I drove along the Virginia side of the Potomac, to see friends who left downtown for the suburbs, I move I will never be able to understand. It was a beautiful landscape dotted with big manses (ungreen and with a large carbon footprint, that's for sure) and full of Stepford liberals, all with the same facial expression, the same over -the-crown-of-their-interlocutor's-head gaze (cloned from the pensive-into-the-future gaze of The Sunbama himself) same preppy clothes, the same two or three breeds of dogs, and the same two or three brands of gas guzzlers. The same Sunbama fried egg symbol was everywhere.
My friends are out of place t here. I think they secretly miss downtown.
I pointed out to them that it reminded me of the large homes in posh neighborhoods in Havana, which lay abandoned for years with their black red and white cast aluminum plaques anouncing "esta es tu casa fidel" still nailed to their front doors.
Those houses in the Biltmore and Miramar belonged to the moneyed elite of Cuba, the gliteratti of Havana, who have supported and paid for the indoctrination and training of Castro and his henchmen, only to flee before than anybody else could escape their so lovely crafted tropical Frankenstein. I wonder to where all of these Obamunistas are going to flee, when their time come.

In contrast, in the past two days I have walk through what the young Obamunistas in Georgetown called "the war zone". That is, impoverished neighborhoods in the inner city. There are not that many Obama signs there. They feel that they should not blindly trust any politician, and as an elderly black woman told me, the fact that B'rak rejects his white heritage makes him suspicious to her eyes. Why? Weren't they doting and loving grandparents? Didn't they put him through school? Didn't they give him a good life? What kind of Christian is such an ingrate? I have to say that her questions were very sharp and accurate. It was interesting to see that those "poor" neighborhoods do not have as many signs supporting the Messiah as the ones sprouting all over the well-to-do neighborhoods of this town. That tells me that the "poor" neighborhoods are at least rich in independent thinkers, and in men and women who are grounded in reality. It also reminded me that the vast majority of the middle class and "poor" households in Cuba didn't sport those aluminum plaques giving support (and eventually ownership of the homes) to fidel castro.

Maybe those rich Obamunistas should talk to the who's who of Cuban society who did in 1958 what they are doing in 2008. I am sure they will get a lot of tips on how to put Obama in power and on how to jump ship abandoning everybody in despair with no more than their "creation" to enjoy.

Subliminal advertising has always been creepy, to say the least. It was described and codified in 1984, by George Orwell, who knew a thing or two about communism and totalitarianism.
The image above is a composite of B'rak Hussein Obama adverts that appear for a few seconds on the screen of certain video games (one is car based, the other one basketball based) which are directed to young men who are not very social and spend a lot of time playing with their game consoles and their joysticks, pun intended.
If Castro invented the method of ruling through television, the handlers of the Manchurian candidate -face it, he's not that bright, he's just a face of a more sinister movement- devised the video game tyranny, probably with inspiration provided by uncle fidel.
Look, concentrate, obey. That's the mantra of the subliminal advert that encourages the viewer to vote early, and of course, for B'rak. It would be interesting to analyze whether the same is happening with tv spots. And even more interesting would be to find out where this vast amount of money devoted to communist propaganda is coming from.

Newsweek magazine has published a photograph of Sarah Palin on its cover without the benefits of Photoshop, which is abundantly used by the same magazine to make B'rak Hussein Obama look "presidentiable".

Not happy with creating an object of cult -of cult of personality, that is- with B'rak Hussein Obama and his Messianic poses, halos, pensive gestures, and so on, Newsweek and other media have successfully hidden wrinkles, hair plugs, moles and other imperfections in a guy who is hardly an Adonis, Joe Biden.

We better not touch the McCain photo sessions and the photographs that get published of the Republican candidate. The media is a veritable factory of ridiculous images of the Republican camp, resorting to fisheye lenses, cartoonish poses, and unflattering lighting or closeups.

Besides the deconstruction of the looks of a beautiful woman in her forties, by a close-close-close-up, in what resembles the kind of macrophotography used to study insects, the photos at the top appear in the online edition of Newsweek just to visually assassinate Sarah Palin. One wonders how low the press has fallen that a woman gets vilified like this for her looks. It would be interesting to see what would happen if equally "revealing" photos of Michel Obama were to be published in a magazine with nation-wide editions.

Do not miss the caption of the cover photograph: "she's one of the folks", and the tag line "and that's the problem". There's something to be said about the arrogance, the elitism, and the complex of superiority of the "illuminati" who write the contents of these magazines. They seem not to have a problem if some in-and-out of rehab "star" with more botox than the mummy of Lenin expresses his/her (political) "opinions", as long as the person in question is an Obamaniac.

As we have seen, the Obama camp has erased all traces of gentlemanship in this presidential contest. They are treating this election as if it were a trashy reality TV show, and using tactics that high-schoolers would consider low. There's, though, an explanation for that: they are lower than high school bullies.

Ah, the joys of participating in a revolution!
Today I ran into two pretty Sunbama gals, to whom I addressed as Sunshine -pun intended.
They were holding the customary Sunbama clipboards and Sunbama pens, asking for people to sign in support for Obama. I signed as Agustin Marquetti, the famous Cuban baseball player.

I asked them what happened if people signed twice, or three times, or ten times. They didn't know, and I frankly think that the idea had never crossed their minds before. But of course, if that idea crossed my mind, is because the idea lives freshly in the mind of the revolutionary operatives of the Sunbama Leader.

I also asked them about absentee voting and early voting. They didn't know much of absentee voting, but they told me that probably it's directed to those elderly citizens who will be out of their place of residence in the cold days of November, I told them that I had heard the story of a New Jersey guy that discover that a guy posing as a Republican party representative was actually a Democratic Party operative and they giggled. They told me that everything is valid, and I said, yes, in love and war every strategy is valid... but in the elections? Then we go onto the early voting thing.

They told me that early voting is being organized by Sunbama operatives at concerts, colleges, and "certain" neighborhoods (one of them made the "quotation marks" gestures while telling me. I said that it was "interesting, what kind of neighborhood do you mean?" she said, "you know, rough neighborhoods", and I said, "oh, like where I live.... downtown!". "No -she said- I mean real ghettos, war zones". Oh well, these people consider black neighborhoods ghettos and war zones.... That's sweet. Now I am sure that the Sunbama and his lovely wife are in total disconnection with the very same voters they hope to attract.

Needless to say, that they are preying onto impressionable young people to get them to vote for the Sunbama in campuses and colleges, and confusing the elderly with their "tactics". I am really curious to see what happens in "rough neighborhoods, real ghettos, and war zones".

I was just late for my meeting, so I got a phone number from them to talk to some guy and volunteer for them in a "rough neighborhood". Let's see what they tell me, and I will be happy to report from "the war zone".

Nobody like those "muchachones" of the G2 and the University of Informatic Sciences to hack blogs, break into the dissidents' electronic mail boxes, and hijack their computers.

The Obamumistas don't lag that far behind: David Kernell, 20, the son of a Democratic Tennessee state lawmaker (Representative Michael Kernel, from Memphis) pleaded not guilty Wednesday to hacking the e-mail account of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The hacker faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release if convicted, in his trial scheduled for December 16, 2008.

Let's see what the press cable say about it.

"The investigation is continuing. The indictment said at least one other person successfully reset Palin's e-mail password and accessed her e-mail account after the hacker named "rubico," whom the government contends is Kernell, posted his exploits on the Web.
"I wouldn't say specifically whether that other individual may be charged or not," Justice Department spokeswoman Laura Sweeney said from Washington.
U.S. Magistrate Judge C. Clifford Shirley restricted Kernell from discussing the case with any potential witnesses, which include his roommates.
Kernell was also restricted from having any contact directly or indirectly with the Alaska governor or her family.
Shirley warned that if Kernell violated any part of his release conditions, he would be held until the trial.
Kernell's attorney, Wade Davies, accompanied his client in court.
"As soon as we found out about the charges this morning, David voluntarily turned himself in," said Davies, who refused to answer any other questions.
The indictment alleges that on Sept. 16 Kernell reset the password to Palin's personal e-mail account to gain access to it. Authorities say Kernell then read the contents of the account and made screenshots of the e-mail directory, e-mail content and other personal information, later posting some of the information to a public Web site."

The democratic party operatives use all possible and illegal means to hijack the e-mail account of a Governor, and the press treats it with leniency. The only thing that we are missing here is that the electronic vandal is treated like a folk hero. Well, he's been already treated like a folk hero by the Obamunistas. The same technique has been used in Cuba where the private e-mails from dissidents have appeared on tv shows and the press. Is this just a coincidence? Isn't this equivalent to Watergate?

This new series of posts, with titles in Spanish and with themes which are a throw back to my days in Cuba will run from today to the day after the elections.

It was inspired by chance, and actually I now realize that the first column was "the future of intimidation", whose title in Spanish would fittingly be "Brigadas de Respuesta Rapida". The inspiration was provided by the inhabitants of some posh enclaves in Washington DC when Obamunismo is rampant and feverish.
This is what happened this morning:

After the lame debate of last night, there was nothing worthy of mentioning about the upcoming elections. The irrelevancy of the themes touched, the PTA airs of the meeting, and the general torpor of both candidates were a great antidote against all sort of optimism that one could have left in one's system.

But nothing like walking along a nice tree lined street with multimillion dollar manses sporting an amount of signs on their manicured gardens and custom windows hailing the One and Only, the Son of the Sun, and the Divine Himself that in other neighborhoods would be consider littering the streetscape with visual polution. What do I say? The residents of this neighborhood, Georgetown, are known for calling the "quality of life police" and the "code enforcement authorities" on each other for even a birdbath located in the wrong position. Somehow, they tolerate all the Sunbama signs..... and only those.

This morning I ran into a gaggle of ladies whose orime was a few decades overdue, and they were having an informal meeting, all of them radiant in their Sunbama T-shits, with Sunbama buttons, and all kind of other Obamunist paraphernalia. I had to ask them what were they doing so early in the morning. They nicely told me, as ladies whose best years passed are wanton to do when they see a guy who looks like a liberal, that they were organizing a neighborhood patrol to uproot all the McCain-Palin signs they could find. They also have nightly rounds to see that nobody puts McCain-Palin signs in their own gardens. I asked what they would do, if they found one of those "offending" signs, and they told me that they would just substitute it for one sign touting the virtues of the One.

So, I said, not all the signs in this neighborhood signal that the person who owns the house is a follower....
No, they happily told me, with that mischievous spark in the plastic surgery enhanced eye.... No, they are not, we can tell you who is a real Obama suporter and who we have tagged. Nice, I said, nice for this community organization....

What I didn't tell me that all of them are nothing other than viejas chivatonas del comite (for my anglo readers, neighborhood snitches, communist style). Just with plastic surgery in various parts of their anatomies, heavy jewelry, imported cars, big mansions, and fat bank accounts. These are the same people who will call the neighborhood association while offended by the aroma of a barbeque, or when somebody displays a festive multicolored silk flag outside of their house, these are the same who are a bunch of NIMBYists (not in my back yard) who fought teeth and nails to successfully prevent the Washington DC Metro system from having a stop in Georgetown, so the "riff-raff" wasn't able to disembark in this neighborhood, or who scream when a store sells unconventional stuff, or when a restaurant doesn't serve the rarified pseudo-French fare they favor.

They were inspirational, though.
They have inspired me to infiltrate the Obamunistas and bring you my experiences of being embedded among them, from this week to November 5.

Jerome Corsi deported from Kenya

He was arrested just minutes before the presentation his book about Obama. After the book-signing, he had planned to go see Obama's half brother with a $1000.00 gift.

B'rak didn't sound convincing -slimy at his best, that's how he sounds.
The Mac lost all and every good opportunity to nail B'rak's balls to the wall, even when he managed to deliver some good zingers.... One thing he needs to learn is not to say "my friends" to wedge sentences apart or to weld them together. B'rak should learn to construct sentences, in the first place. Strange, if you consider that (he says) he went to Columbia University.

B'rak Hussein Obama was the master of bullshit, specially when he went back and forth with Pakistan and Iran, and when he demonstrated that he knows absofucklinglutely nothing about nothing. In the meantime, the Mac demonstrated he knew exactly what and who Putin is, while B'rak made faces of beheaded lamb (carnero degolla'o)

The Mac could have used his time to ask Obama to explain what the hell is happening with Acorn, and to ask him about his association with Fanny Mae's executives, and who is Bill Ayers, how was business with Antoine Rezko, what was he smoking that he never knew what the hell was going on with his pastor's sermons, or whether he had called his cousin in Kenya to demand the liberation of Jerome Corsi, or what's up with those thousands of small donations from abroad.

The Mac maybe won some points in this debate, but also did B'rak with his more fanatical followers. I still consider that the Mac delivered a very slim victory, which is not sufficient to carry a high school cafeteria, let alone a presidential election. On the other side, B'rak was kind of like the deer on the highlights. He skirted the issues, and delivered a rhetoric of "change" that will earn him no converts, just his enamored fans are the only ones who will be left with some change in is pockets, if any after he is elected.

B'rak has changed Chicago.
And the Senate. (I have asked how, but nobody seems to understand "how" or even "why".
Oh, and his wife. Now she "likes" America. And she felt once some pride for being an American, a few months ago, so I don't know how she's feeling now.

Sure as there's sunlight that he can change America. For sure. Into Amerika. Welcome to the end of the American dream, the American nightmare will start soon, delivered to your doorstep by some smiling Obama supporter....

We are certainly walking our way into a Matrix kind of reality.
Actually, we are voting our way into it.

In posh Georgetown, Washington DC, I was approached by two Obamunistas wearing their new symbol -I call it the Sunbama- which is to 2008 what the Swastika was to 1936, or the Hammer and Sickle to 1917. Or that is at least what they think.

The two Obamadudes in question approached me with their aluminum clipboards asking me if I had a second to spare for Obama, I said "yes, and I will use to tell you how strongly I feel about this closet marxist and cryptocommunist". They ignored my sentence, and they went straight into their sales pitch to get me (of all people) to vote for the Manchurian candidate. I repeated that I would not vote for him, and I added that if fidel castro and raul castro find him to be a fine chap, to me that's like the devil's mark on his ass. They left me alone, and I had not walked half a block when another duo of Obamapeople stopped me again.

They were in Obama-O-Matic mode.
They were cheery and leery, and with a big smile one of the guys presented me with a Sunbama clipboard and a Sunbama pen for me to sign in favor of the guy that would do us no favor. I was bad. I let go a burst of laughter and I told them that they had to be kidding me. They were surprised, they assume that every guy with glasses and long hair entering a bookstore is a defacto Obamunista. I laughed again, and I asked them to point me to the hidden camera, because, it had to be one of those hidden camera shows where they punk you out. "What's this, Mr. Teleprompter's new show?"

They got really mad and they started yelling at me that I should known better, that I should know what I was doing.
That I couldn't mock Saint Obama under any concept and circumstance. "Really?", I said, "could you tell me why? Is he the One of Divine Nature? Is this some sort of a second coming?"

"No" -one of the two answered- "this is a revolution".
I had to laugh again, and I told them that between their leftover of the sixties college professors, the know-it-all celebrities, and the communist brainwashing of the Obamamaniacs our society was totally screwed all.

The one that was silent to that second got combative all of a sudden and said: "We know who you are, we know where you live". And I said "sure Einstein, sure. This is the first time I see you and you already used your Xray goggles on me to read my driver's license". Then he said "I could punch you". I said "bring it on dude, bring it on".... at that point two men that were watching the exchange separated the three of us.

I have to tell you that it sounds exactly like the tactics of intimidation used under communism to force people to vote for their "delegates" in their "elections". The threat of violence sounded exactly like the "rapid response brigades". This is the work of the heirs of Bill Ayers and other homegrown haters, and the work of the press. The same press that consider newsworthy and (bottom)feeds the public with the agitated sex life of the starlets, and the stint in rehab of a slew of so call celebrities, and then present their musings as worthy political opinion on their pages.

Now you know why fidel castro and his brother raul think that Obama is the viable candidate.
Imagine a future of intimidation.
Imagine a new Chavez, just more powerful, sitting in the White House.
If this is a revolution, indeed, well....

Naturalmente, todo esto tiene una explicación: no querían otra demostración de solidaridad nacional e internacional con el rockero. Al contrario, decidieron no volver a darle publicidad en los medios. Y esto contraviene el que hacer del más sanguinario de los publicistas de rock and roll, Raúl Castro cuya gestión a finales del mes de agosto elevó la banda a niveles de celebridad insospechados por los más optimistas.

At 84 I have been through many elections, but even when Pres. Jack Kennedy was in office, we did not have this type of cult worship. Pres. Kennedy was a marvelous speaker, a truly well educated man and never at a loss for words, never a question he could not answer. You have to view some of the videos of Barack Hussein Obama when he is asked a question that he is not prepared for, a startling display of stuttering and "ahs" as if he just cannot think on his feet, that he must be coached or prompted. A LONG, CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH A TERRORIST

Obama has had a long association with Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernadette Dorn, of the Weathermen, and yet when specifically asked during a debate about his association with a man with a terrorist background in the seventies, he answers, "How can I know. I was only 8 years old at the time!"

Analyze that statement. Didn't he learn about the Black Panthers and all the turmoil of the 70s? This is taught in schools and colleges. It is impossible that he did not know the full history of the Weathermen, absolutely impossible. He knew Bernadette Dorn very well, and spent hours in her company, a woman who had a long history with this American terrorist organization, the group that robbed a Brink’s truck and killed a Brink’s guard. “I was only 8 years old (when this group to which Ayers and Dorn belonged) placed a bomb in the White House and killed a Brink’s guard is what he is telling us. They also fire-bombed a judge’s home. “I was only 8 years old. . .” Bull, Obama, bull.

If you are seen in the company of these former (?) unrepentant terrorists, certainly friends will remark about them, and if you are so uninformed, they will tell you the full story. Such evasiveness on the part of Barack Hussein Obama is unforgiveable, and the failure of interviewers to dig deeper into his former close associates borders on cover-up, even for the Great O’Reilly.

THE $50 MILLION GRANT: HOW, WHY, WHAT WAS IT FOR?

Bill Ayers got a 50 million dollar grant from the Annenberg Foundation (check that out, $50 million) and he put, he himself, put Barack Hussein Obama in charge of the Annenberg Challenge, as CEO, to dispense that $50 million. Hey, a grant of a half a million can fund cancer research, yet these two guys got a $50 million grant. But that’s only half the story; it was a matching grant, so they actually had $100 million in their hands to spend – for education.

Where did it go? It is all gone. Where? Bill Ayers, an anarchist, a revolutionary, one of the top men in a terrorist group and Barack Hussein Obama dispense $100 million to whom? Would any sane man, even with an insane hatred of his own country, like Bill Ayers, put someone he did not know in charge of this $100 million? It defies logic, it defies common sense, that they were not like brothers, blood brothers, sitting on a Board with $100 million to dispense to improve education in Chicago, yet not one word of what they accomplished with that $100 million is told to us, citizens and voters in the coming elections. With that $100 million he had a chance to accomplish something outstanding, yet all we hear about the man is that he was a Community Organizer!

And yet Barack Hussein Obama says he knew nothing about Bill Ayers, nor his wife, Bernadette Dorn's, prior history. "I was only 8 years old!" Crap. If anything is such a zero in his mind before he was 8 years old, then folks, you had better start worrying now.

Obama, Ayers, Dorn. Ayers, Obama, Dorn. Dorn, Obama, Ayers. The Virgin Birth of the Triumvirate. With $100 million. Think about that. I'm sorry, but if you associate with founding members, violent members, lifetime members, of the Weathermen for years and you don't know it, then such lack of prudence and poor judgment should disqualify a person from the high office of President of the United States.

1100 SERMONS AND NO MEMORY OF THEM!

The Rev. Wright gave 1100 sermons over a period of twenty years (52 x 20 years membership of that church attended by Barack Hussein Obama) and yet, Obama tells us that he did not understand the anti-American, anti-white, racist natures of the preacher. "God Damn America" he says loud and clear, "God Bless America, no, God Damn America" and Obama failed to understand where he was and what he was listening to? He resigned from the church only after it was brought out into the open.

Common sense tells us that he is either evading the truth or outright lying. It is because of his color, I charge, no one dares question his deceitfulness!

Mrs. Clinton did not bring this up in her debates with him, but she was obligated to do so and did not. Yet, Obama is allowed to pass over all of this and say that he "didn't know" what was going on. Yet, they're singing Hosea's to him and saying that he is going to lead the World. There is something radically wrong here, radically wrong. This is jive talk, dishonest talk, and every reporter is passing over it, refusing to ask a tough question about Wright, about Ayers, about Dorn. These associations are too lengthy, too strong, too involved, to overlook, to ignore, to pass over (no pun) or to question in depth.

OBAMA HAS BEEN UNTRUTHFUL WITH US

It is obvious that the candidate has been untruthful about these associates of his, and he does not wish to admit to them for a reason. That reason: they are dangerous people and have led armed insurrections against their own country, even treasonous people.

Ask yourself, who is behind Obama, and who backed him all this time? Where did the $100 million go, and why was it given to Terrorist Bill Ayers in the first place, and who approved of this grant? The full story has not been told and it will not be told until after the election. It will be withheld from the public until then. Yes, Obama was a Community Organizer, but he was one with $100 million dollars and that needs to be explained. Have you ever heard of another Community Organizer with $100,000,000?

AS A SPEAKER

Not to belittle Sen. Obama’s oratorical skills, but as someone pointed out, Dan Quayle lost an election because of the misspelling of a single word, potato. Watch this video of Obama, the URL is below, for 31 seconds. Yes, we can find illustrations of others in a similar fix, but there are many videos of Obama in circumstances like this where he talks on and on and says nothing of any consequence, as he does here. He is a master at it. He needs a teleprompter, but who is writing the script? He is obviously not a quick thinker, nor can he put his thoughts together in a free-swinging debate.

Exhibit E

Yes, they make fun of President Bush’s mistakes when he makes a speech, and he does make them, but so does this character, Senator Obama. He has a much better speaking voice, certainly a good “presence” and he reads the teleprompter better than Bush, but that’s all. Perhaps if he told us that he had complete charge of $100 million, that he was the CEO of The Anenberg Challenge, and gave us a wonderful accounting of it, we might be able to judge better his leadership abilities.

Was the $100 million dollar grant (for what purpose) the beginning of all of this? Are the Weathermen behind his campaign and those who wish take over Washington? These are questions that need answering, and they must be answered before the elections. Not one reporter, not even the great and un-humble Bill O'Reilly addressed this most important issue. A penetrating questioner, a true reporter, asks and persists until he gets answers that make sense. Why not? Reverse racism. They refused to treat the candidate as an ordinary candidate because they are all afraid of being labeled as “racists” and getting kicked off the air.

Obama and his wife, Michelle, are out-and-out racists. Just read their books and papers. I’m not against any single race; I am against racism no matter who is guilty of it and I will openly say so. The Obamas are strongly racist.

BACK TO 100 MILLION DOLLARS AND FOX’S BILL O’REILLY

Wait a minute, a man was in charge of $100 million and he sat at meetings with the man who obtained the grant, terrorist Bill Ayers, yet knows not a single thing about his past connections with the Weathermen, about bombs and threats and guns and acts of terrorism? Does it make sense to you? Bill O’Reilly could not ask about that and inform the American public about what their candidate for one party did with the $100 million, who got it and for what purpose? How was it spent? Why didn’t he ask about it?

Hillary Clinton lost, but she lost because she could not take off the lace gloves and slug it out toe to toe; she had to exercise extreme care in every word she uttered. Yet, the Rev. Wright was able to say things that no white person could even think of saying. She could not bring up Ayers and Dorn without antagonizing her own party. She could not bring up Michelle's college thesis, which has bearing on the election as well, without losing support. She was restricted and she had the supports knocked right out from under her. She was more direct; he was more obtuse. She spoke well, but he had reverse racism on his side.

We want honesty and we are not getting it. Do you want to see former or current members of the Weathermen, former terrorists, in high positions in Washington? Isn't this what we must worry about? Anarchists in charge?

Well, the Cubans had such a man, fifty years ago, who promised them change. They got change. They eventually got free medical care and free colleges, but if you believe the socialists, and Fidel Castro, as to what is happening in Cuba, then you believe in Fairy Tales as well. For that, they gave up their freedom. What is the price you willing to pay in exchange for your freedom? It is a question worth thinking about.

And, if you believe that during Obama's long association with Ayers and Dorn and the Rev. Wright he had absolutely no knowledge of what they were doing, what they had done, nor what they were preaching, then you are closing your eyes to what is going on, perhaps, to your future regret.

If Barack Hussein Obama is such a special person, then let us watch him as a Senator over the next four years. Let him prove his leadership abilities to the nation, rather than experiment with us now. He’ll still be a young man of 51 then, and we’ll know more about him. In the meantime, there’s certainly a question of his choice of close friends.

Penultimos Días publishes the Tele 5 report about child prostitution in Cuba.
Sad and somber to watch, to say the least.
It shows the misery of the Cuban people, and how some adults -or youths or quasi children themselves- become pimps of children, and how the occupation Palestinian police is their accomplice in their trade from help. The young pimps work the schools, where the teachers betray the parents, and are the worst possible traitors to the children in their trust, becoming accomplices in the traffic of these kids. Talk about terrible.
Children and sell and bought, for sex, in a country where despair is the only thing that flourishes after the likes of the castros and guevara raped the country and forced it into slavery.
The "johns" are not only foreigners, there are also Cubans johns. Whoever has money can buy a child, sometimes againts the will of these children. The girls are raped, beaten, sold, bought. And the children are alone and surrounded pack of wolves led by pimps, teachers, cops....

This is the work of the castros, guevara, and the revolution.
So, why we would want to increase the misery of the Cuban people?
Just imagine the work ahead in terms of fixing the broken morals, the education and health systems, and all that's related to the repairing of the social fabric. Certainly, a titanic task to reconstruct the Cuban society in moral terms.
All of those who are guilty of the rape of the Cuban children should be taken to justice, alongside their accomplices in the repressive forces, the schools, the government, the johns, and ultimately, all castroites. This is just the result of the moral bankruptcy of communism, and pimps are profiteers of the misery of the people, worse, they are accomplices of the government of corrupting the children and youths of Cuba.

Special Period, second serving.

The reports from Cuba could not be bleaker.
The first special period never ended, but the authorities are proudly announcing that they are giving the population a second serving of misery and famine.

While the castro brothers are hoarding all the resources to keep their troops, police, and secret service fed and ready, the population has been left to fend for themsevels. It's hardly surprising, since the only objective of the tyranny and the two co-tyrants is to keep themselves power, and I should insist in the notion that fidel castro is back in power, and exerting all his power, and that one of this days he will show up in his green frog-like fatigues.

It's also very interesting to see how some advocate for an egalitarianism in hunger, which is equivalent to an egalitarianism in disease and health. They say that no Cuban should receive any money from abroad, since all Cubans could not -naturally- receive money from abroad. They fail to realize that they are just saying the same the castros say, and that it accommodates very well their wishes of general misery for the Cuban people. They don't realize that when a sector of the population has money and independence from the government forced cycles of misery, that money circulates in the black and grey economy, and gets saved too, and most of it will be kept in the hands and hiding spots of regular Cubans.

I survived the first special period. Many didn't. Many starved and succumbed to diseases and weakness. The second special period will be worst, as all seems to indicate.

We need to help the population to break the dependency from the government rations and hand-outs. That's the only way they have to survive, and the only way they have to keep themselves healthy, physically and mentally.

That a sector of the population receives remittances is better than nobody receives them. For those who advocate in favor of the restriction or even suspensions of remittances, this is how it works: according to the same rules of market.
Everything is shaped under the relationship of offer and demand.

If there's a demand for food and services, and money to pay for it, there will be an offer to satisfy such demand. The ones who don't receive dollars directly will grow food to sell to the ones who have that currency which will circulate among the population, mainly. All of them become freer, because they do not depend on the government designs to get fed or to earn their keep. The black market is an anticastro activity par excellence and it has to be kept alive if we want the Cuban population to survive.

To resist the horrible conditions of the so called "special period" is an act of subversion that needs to be supported. The only resource of Cuba is it's people, and those men and women are the foundation for a free Cuba. Without Cubans, there will be no Cuba, it is that hard to understand?

A costly divorce later, Macca shreds it off in a heavy sounding album, pure rock, not electronica as some forae will have it.

The album is scheduled to come out on November 13.
From the same album, this is another song dedicated to the effort of clearing agricultural land from land mines.

Farmers' markets in Havana have tanked completely.
Black market operators -for good and services- have been chased and pursued all over the city, buyers, hagglers, sellers, all.
So, in the aftermath of the two major hurricanes that hit the island in the past days, the situation for the Cuban people goes from bad to worse, to the worst point.

Let's do some chronological analysis, spiced with some geographical pointers.... The first hurricane Gustav affected mainly areas located in the isle of Pines, the southern shore of Havana and most of Pinar del Rio. Ike affected the easternmost areas of Cuba, among them the birthplaces of fidel castro and his nephews the Diaz Balarts. Havana and its environs were affected only by wind and rain, without catastrophic consequences if one does not count the interruption of phone and electricity, and the collapse of buildings which have not met a maintenance crew since January 1, 1959. So, those problems were "revolution-made, not hurricane-caused".

Therefore, between hurricanes, and after Ike, there were amounts of produce still available in the farmers' markets of Havana.
The only thing is that offer and demand were setting the prices a bit high, but they were tending to an equilibrium, as in all natural systems, market included. Not to the liking of raul or fidel -who by the way, is inching back towards power. He discovered that not holding more power than Primer Secretario del Partido allows him to invent a new kind of dictatorship, which is more efficient in the only thing that his dictatorship has been efficient: the arts and sciences of repression. People were counting bank notes, C.U.Cs, dollars, and euros, and they were not happy. Whatever happened to their socialized misery to subjugate the population in a time of crisis? Didn't they need more fear and more hunger to exert control over the masses? Something needed to be done!

Then the infamous phrase came from heavens -or was it from hell?- to provide them with inspiration for their own rescue: en Cuba no hace falta dinero porque no hay nada que comprar! -there's no need of money in Cuba because there's nothing to buy! That was the solution: clean the markets. Jail the vendors and the sellers. Take their money. All under the auspices of one of the many "edicts" published on Granma, as suggested by "El Primer Secretario del Partido". The castros hurried up and applied their neo-Weylerian policy against the people of Cuba, at a lower cost than what was spent at the sunset of the nineteenth century. With the country in ruins, not as a result of an insurrection, but as the result of crushing possible insurrections, to force a famine is a very easy task. Additionally, it's even easier when there's a bulk of prefabricated propaganda which is ready to be used by the tyranny as part of their psychological warfare against the civilian population to prevent protests and uprisings. Terror and hunger go together, as the evil twins they are.

Now there's nothing to buy in Cuba, but the money is still needed for people to survive and to buy their staples from an underground net of sellers, both to feed their families and to subvert the "order" imposed by the "authorities". The inhabitants of towns, cities, and villages that were self sufficient after the hurricanes were rendered not into a set pressure cookers, but drove into grinding machines that are ripping away the flesh of their inhabitants and crushing their bones to a bloody paste.

Con la estela del reciente estreno de Che, el argentino, los reportajes sobre el personaje se suceden un día sí y el otro también. En una de las múltiples tertulias televisivas se le califica de símbolo de la izquierda que lucha por la libertad. Creo que nunca una palabra como libertad ha sido utilizada tanto por aquellos que no la practican, y también pienso: ¿quién no ha sido abducido alguna vez por la figura del mítico personaje y se ha sentido revolucionario por un día? El contertulio en cuestión parece un miembro de la Conferencia Episcopal hablando del Papa y los dogmas de la fe. Hablando de las luces, se olvida de las inevitables sombras.
Convertido hoy en icono pop, me pregunto qué pensaría el Che del rock and roll como cultura. ¿Hubiera secundado la detención de Gorki Águila, líder del grupo cubano de rock Porno para Ricardo, por criticar la revolución? Una revolución que forma parte del imaginario de una generación que en algunos casos se niega a afrontar la realidad: que su revolución se ha convertido en una dictadura. Me pregunto si somos inocentes de nuestros pecadillos ideológicos de juventud. Mi generación también cayó subyugada por el Frente Sandinista, y ya ven cómo ha terminado la fiesta.
Hay quien vive entre los restos del naufragio, sigue creyendo que el enemigo se llama Occidente, mira a otro lado cuando Rusia invade Georgia a la sombra de unos Juegos Olímpicos en un país que se pasa los derechos humanos por el forro y, al ver en directo el ataque a las Torres Gemelas, suelta: "Ya era hora de que les tocara a ellos". Esa izquierda que arremetió contra las acusaciones de Oriana Fallaci; la misma que dejó solo al profesor Robert Redeker después de publicar un artículo en Le Figaro, lo que le ha costado vivir en la clandestinidad, o que se calla cuando España vende armas a Irán
En mi única visita a Cuba acompañé a unos jóvenes músicos hasta los servicios, donde me entregaron una cinta con sus canciones, a espaldas del comisario político, mientras miraban por encima del hombro. Porno Para Ricardo y La Babosa Azul se han visto obligados a suspender el concerto programado para el día de de hoy, que planeaban conducir en beneficio de las víctimas de los huracanes Gustav e Ike en Cuba.

La causa de la suspensión de este concierto benéfico ha sido una afección en la garganta que esta padeciendo Ciro, ya que el tratamiento médico recomendado exige reposo absoluto de la voz por tres semanas.

El concierto se había preparado con ayuda de los amigos de las dos bandas, y se había ya recogido una buena cantidad de donaciones que serán enviadas a las zonas afectadas tal y como se planeaba hacer al final del evento musical para ser distribuida entre los damnificados directamente y en sus manos sin intervencion del gobiero. Para esto se cuenta con la ayuda de muchos ciudadanos cubanos y extranjeros, de la iglesia, y de personas que a título personal y anónimo se han ofrecido para llevar las donaciones a los damnificados.

Por otra parte, ahora podemos revelar que se han hecho envíos anteriores con la ayuda de Yoani y un extenso grupo de amigos y que todas las donaciones fueron entregadas en sus propias manos a personas perdieron lo poco que tenían, y que la ayuda consistió en ropas, articulos para recien nacidos, alimentos enlatados y dinero, a pesar de que a ambos lados del estrecho de la Florida hay quienes dicen que en Cuba no hay nada que comprar y que por tanto los cubanos de la isla no necesitan dinero.

La Babosa Azul, Porno Para Ricardo, y los verdaderos amigos de la población se han dedicado a demostrar lo contrario, tanto, que la dictadura persigue hoy mas que nunca a las personas que venden alimentos en la “bolsa negra” y los estan encarcelando sin siquiera una caricatura de jucio. Tambien podemos decir, que los precios del mercado clandestino en Cuba son sensiblemente mas bajos que los del gobierno.

Es de señalar que tanto los músicos como sus amigos son tambien víctimas de estos huracanes y de la tiranía y que sacrifican lo poco que tienen para darlo a alguien que esta en una situacion aún peor que la de ellos. Si no son barridos por un huracán, son entonces acosados por el huracán estacionario de la tiranía. En una verdadera tradición del “resolver” cubano se las han arreglado para destruir las barreras erigidas por la dictadura para que la ayuda no pudiera llegar a la población, y han roto el ciclo de miedo y de limitaciones impuestos por el sistema sobre el cubano “normal”, tomando en sus propias manos la distribución de la ayuda.

El país tiene que ser reconstruido completamente en libertad y democracia.
El país tiene que florecer, sin la interferencia de dictadores momificados, sabelotodos, o la negatividad de los “expertos y cubanólogos” y sin la arrogancia y actitud condescendiente y perdonavidas de aquellos que piensan que ellos saben lo que es “bueno” para los cubanos, sin siquiera preocuparse por tratar de comprender que es lo que los afecta en la isla de Cuba y sin ponerse en sus gastados zapatos por menos por unos cinco escasos minutos.

At Mr. Ts's blog, there's an interesting article where the author touches upon a mention of the "ambition of John McCain" in a comment left on his blog about last night's presidential candidates debate.

Words in English do not carry the same connotation than they usually convey in Spanish.

Ambition, for example, is commonly accepted in English as a character trait generally viewed in a positive light, as in a person who is always taking his/her standing grounds of today as the departing point of tomorrow for the goal of personal betterment.

In the limited Spanish of some, or in Spanglish, "ambición" is just taken and understood in a way that is not only related -or not related at all- to the English accepted usage, but to a limited accepted usage of its Spanish equivalent: the unskilled Spanish speaker will only recognize it as a synonym of "greed", in Spanish "avaricia". I have seen many Spanglish speakers cringe -and yes, there's such a thing- when one talks about one's ambitions; they automatically assume that one is taking about being greedy.

Of course, greed is one type of ambition, but not all ambitions are about greed.
The personal ambition John McCain has to become President of the United States, for example. Or to be fair, the ambitions harbored by B'rak Hussein Obama while he is vying for that very same position. Of course, John McCain looks ambitious in his presidential goals, and B'rak Obama looks as ambitious as John McCain, but his particular ambition looks spiced and spiffed up with the arrogance and cockiness of those who are out there to steamroll others to death. And that's worse than greed.

Ditch the Spanglish. Learn Spanish and English. And enrich your vocabulary in both languages.

The surprise decision comes after a unilateral suspension of campaign activities by McCain. After the "no deal" on the economic bail-out, and the monumental -and bi-partisan- Washington tantrums of last night, I think that McCain will question the good will and the aptitude (and attitude) of B'rak Obama to solve this country's problems and economic woes.

Macca ended his concert in Tel-Aviv a short while ago, and all the monsters who wanted to silence the musician with death and shrapnel had to contemplate how Jews and Arabs alike were swept of their feet by the ex-Beatle.

Not surprisingly, not a single senior Palestinian (terrorist) leader had ever heard of Paul McCartney or the Beatles. Old or young, they are just concerned about hate. They were even angry and pacing with unrest when younger Palestinians -or Palestinians who d not have anything to do with "the organizations" saluted Macca on the streets of Belen, and even waved old albums to be signed.

That would me my rhetorical question to all of those, while living in freedom questions both smugglers of Cubans and the Cubans who pay to be smuggled into the United States. Or better, how much do you think your freedom is worth?
After listening to their answer, I would ask them why is that they think that others do not deserve the same freedom? Did you fight for your freedom or did you pay for it?
A plane ticket counts as paying for it, not as fighting for it.

So, if some other Cubans choose to pay smugglers we should welcome them to freedom, as much as others were welcomed when they arrived here. One good question would be to see how many of them have American visas and the Cuban government denied their exit permits. That's a pretty common situation. Another good question would be to ask them how desperate were day to leave Cuba, and why.

It's always easier to blame the victims, and it's no different from blaming a beautiful woman for being raped. Brutality hits only those who cannot defend themselves. The smuggling of Cubans is the modern day equivalent of the Underground Railroad, and let's not forget that many slaves also paid for being smuggled out to freedom.

There is one responsible for this death, his name is fidel castro. His system, coupled with the Dry Foot Wet Foot illegal regulation, written by Clinton, sustained by Bush, and acclaimed by one too many xenophobes and Cubanophobes, constitute the frame of actions and conditions under which Cubans need to be smuggled out of Cuba, and the cause of death for many of them while in the process of gaining freedom.

The Coast Guard has been denounced many times for shooting at crafts carrying Cubans to the United States, ramming them, and brutalizing the refugees. At this point, there should be an independent investigation to conclude who or what produced the injuries that eventually led to the death of this person, and the only way to establish responsibility is through the American justice system, with interviews to all witnesses. Was the person killed by a smuggler, by another refugee, or was it killed as a result of the actions of boarding the vessels by force?

Those questions can only be answered fairly with a complete independent investigation, and nothing short of that.

Man Who Died Suffered A Head Injury
MIAMI (CBS4) ― Federal authorities are investigating how a Cuban refugee headed for the U.S. died from a head injury on his voyage.

Customs and Border Protection officials intercepted three boats carrying 33 Cubans and 7 alleged smugglers in the waters south of Key Largo late Tuesday night. Coast Guard authorities boarded the boat shortly after and discovered that one of the migrants, an adult man, had a severe head injury.

Coast Guard officers performed CPR on the injured man and then used a helicopter to airlift him to Opa Locka. However, he didn't make it and waiting paramedics pronounced him dead at 3:00 a.m.

The other 39 people, including the alleged smugglers, are on board Coast Guard cutters while federal authorities investigate.

Cuban Refugees Forced To Swim To Freedom
BOYNTON BEACH (CBS4) ― More than three dozen Cuban refugees are safe after a desperate swim for freedom.

The group of about 40 Cuban men and women came ashore early Sunday morning on the beach at Ocean Ridge near Boynton Beach. Ocean Ridge police said all appeared to be in good condition.

One of the refugees told a Palm Beach television crew that the boat they were in started taking on water and sinking off the Boynton Beach Inlet. They were all forced to dive in the water for safety and make their way to shore.

After being processed by agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection the group will most likely be allowed to stay in the U.S. due to the 'wet foot-dry foot' policy which allows Cubans who reach U.S. soil to stay and seek residency.

Hector Palacios and Gisela Delgado returned to Cuba after traveling the world for 11 months, the maximum allowed by the Cuban Junta, in case they give one a "white card" to leave, or not deny one the right to enter your own country.

In a very interesting interview with "el Nuevo Herald", he says:

"Le pedimos al Congreso que permita venir los cubanos a Cuba, porque el contacto pueblo a pueblo es fundamental para conseguir el cambio en el país'', manifestó Palacios. "Y también pedimos que se permitiera el envío de remesas, porque no es concebible impedir que se le mande dinero a un pueblo hambreado... eso termina dañando al gobierno de Estados Unidos, no al de Cuba''.

Sus intercambios con los exiliados cubanos en Miami y otras regiones estadounidenses le convencieron de que la mayoría de sus compatriotas "es ajena al odio con que los identifica la propaganda oficial del régimen, y está dispuesta a participar en la reconstrucción del país''.

"Tenemos que resolver definitivamente esta separación entre exilio y pueblo cubano, porque ambos son la misma cosa'', enfatizó. "Todos tenemos los mismos derechos y sufrimos por igual, los de adentro y los de afuera''.

The above fragment is clarifying, but then you will have people who will condemn him because he wants travel to Cuba and remittances done in all freedom and for the benefit of the Cuban people. He implies that just a minority of people thinks otherwise, and that yes, those are the ones who hate the Cuban people and try to wedge exiles from Cuban in the island. Of course, there will be some that will accuse Hector Palacios, a political prisoner, and his wife Gisela Delgad, a Lady in White, of whatever their feeble minds can concoct.

La Babosa Azul

Nuestros amigos de la Babosa Azul, una poderosa banda alternativa presentan su proyecto musical independiente en la escena rockera de la Habana. En este caso se trata del ambicioso proyecto paralelo de Ciro Díaz Penedo, el guitarrarista y co-compositor de Porno Para Ricardo.

El sonido de la Babosa Azul es innovador y potente. La banda tiene un formato rockero tradicional -guitarras, bajo, batería- reforzado por un trompetista, ademas de otros músicos invitados dándole una gama de sonidos que no se encuentran normalmente en el rock cubano.

Ciro es la voz principal de la banda, y se expresa con gran teatralidad y con un carácter muy distinguido, fuera de lo que el genero rockero nos tiene acostumbrados, por lo cual no es aventurado decir que en la Babosa Azul el experimento comienza con el uso de una tradición que va del teatro al absurdo, pasando por el rock y la declamación poética en la voz principal de Ciro y en los coros que hacen el resto de los integrantes de la banda. Ciro trae su experiencia de Porno Para Ricardo, la banda mas afilada de Cuba en términos expresivos, que ha llevado al punk a una verdadera experimentación en un medio hostil para ellos: Cuba.

Tambien miembro de Porno Para Ricardo, el baterista Renay Kairus forma parte de la alineación de la Babosa Azul, trayendo un sonido muy definido por la calidad del tiempo y el ritmo, que mantiene como un metrónomo y con un poder absoluto en la secciones rítmicas de las dos bandas, que completa en este caso con el bajista Durley Peña. Renay es un musico versátil, con una participación muy importante como guitarrista en un proyecto acústico de la Babosa Azul.

El trompetista Carlos González Pachecho asegura que el sonido de la Babosa Azul tenga una referencia propia dentro del universo rockero cubano. Su desempeño es claro y experimental, y siempre sorprendente dentro del genero, marchando por su propio camino y al ritmo de su propio metro dentro de lo que ya se define como el sonido del rock cubano.

La banda tiene un punto interesante en el trabajo de guitarras, que comparten Ciro y William Martínez, ambos con una trayectoria muy definida como guitarristas con sonido y estilo muy propio.

Tambien Carlos se aventura en el bajo y la guitarra, Renay, muy versátil como baterista tambien toca las guitarras, William cuenta con una amplitud de talentos musicales y toca batería, bajo y guitarras, y Ciro toca tanto el bajo como la guitarra, lo cual permite que la Babosa Azul adopte distintos formatos dependiendo del tema que esten interpretando.

En este momento la Babosa Azul tiene dos discos finalizados, uno es “Idioteces Urbanas” que se puede comprar en la tienda del website, que es una explosión de diez temas rockeros y el otro es “Cuando amanezca el día”, un proyecto unplugged de doce temas basado en las canciones del polaco Jacek Kaczsmarski y del legendario cantor ruso –desaparecido en 1980- Vladimir Vysotsky. Este ultimo es un disco completamente político, con letras muy metafóricas y fue patrocinado por la embajada de Polonia en Cuba y se puede descargar gratuitamente en a seccion de discografía. Hay dos proyectos que estan aún en la fase creative: “No digas nada”, un album que nos trae al Ciro solista acompañado a veces por los miembros del proyecto, y otro de material inédito -todo parodias- que tratará del género de la comedia política en el rock.

Carlos Gutierrez, the same secretary of commerce under whose watch 34 states do business with the tyranny of Cuba, does not want you to help your family in need in Cuba.

This is what I got from the press:

There was talk of lifting the travel ban to the island for 90 days, but Gutierrez believes that would cause too much chaos. He also said allowing for a 90-day increase in the amount of money that can be sent to suffering family members would be a waste.

So, why is he concerned about the CHAOS that this would cause for the Castros? Is that his problem? Who the hell appointed him to police Cuba and keep it orderly for Castro? Who is he to say that it would be a waste to send money to my family or yours?
Secretary, why is that the USA is not sending aid to Cuba like it does to other countries, in spite of the desires of its governing junta, as the USA did with

"What we are hearing from Cubans in Cuba is they don't need money because there's nothing to buy," he said.
The guy's from Miami, not from Cuba.

The only people in Cuba who don't want Cubans in the island with dollars are the Castros, since they will not be able to instill fear on them or to impose hunger onto them as a method of control.

In Cuba people can buy a lot of stuff with dollars in the blackmarket, which is an anticastro activity par excellence.
But to know that you must have to know something about Cuba, Carlitos, and you don't.
This is just a sample of the utter inhumanity of the bi-national regime that Cubans in the island are suffering. No travel, no money, separation, hunger as a method of control -endorsed by both the Cuban regime and its firebrand "enemies".
This is the pressure cooker theory at its best: "make them hungry to control them, make them hungry to make them revolt, make them hungry to punish them because they didn't revolt".

The most pathetic thing is that Cubans here are being stripped of the sacred right to help their own in need, all in the name of an ideology. That's is exactly what the Cuban government wants, to use the Cubans of the island as pawns, as pieces of a macabre chess game, and to keep them hostages. The Cuban government blackmails the USA in front of the international community with impunity, and no, the US government does not punish the Cuban goverment for that, it allows the regime of Havana to abuse its own people a tad more.

Ah, the Cuban tyranny said no to the US aid.... what about growing a set of cojones and say: all Cubans can go to Cuba and carry whatever the hell they want to help whoever they want to help in Cuba?
What about to send the Sixth Float or the Marines to distribute aid to the people of Cuba and to break the yoke of fear and hunger impossed on them by the tyranny of Castro? Oh no, that's too much chaos!

What about using the Guantanamo Base to launch planes to every single airport of Cuba and distribute aid and help, medical services, and shelter to the people of Cuba? Wouldn't it be great to show to the world the inhumanity of the regime?

Why can this be done in Asia, and not in Cuba? Just because it would create chaos and too much waste?

Well, whoever can swallow that excuse is simply an enemy of the Cuban people, and a traitor.

La hambruna que viene

That's the most pressing fear that regular Cubans have now, that the worst part is still to come in the form of a pandemic and a demonic hunger combined. The hurricane season is far from over, and the government has not taken a single step to alleviate the situation in the island. The informal and independent markets are empty. The prices are being gouged, and there's no state sponsored effort to guarantee food, milk, water, or medication to the victims of the two hurricanes that barreled over Cuba in the past few days.

The talking heads of the government just seem concern on spewing safely manufactured cliches, without answering any concerns of the population or offering any real solution. Raul Castro has not even bothered in speaking to the population of his country about the horrible situation that Cuban face, and there's no indication that the government has even take any measures to address a logical consequence of the destruction of the country's agriculture: hunger.

The tyranny is using the threat of a famine to try to blackmail the U.S of A. into lifting the embargo and it's playing with the xenophobic fears of the politicians making clear that they cannot control a massive exodus if such famine were to occur. The only way hunger will not be a reality in Cuba would be if Cubans from abroad could travel to Cuba without restrictions and if they could deliver the much needed help themselves, in whatever shape, mode, or form they decided that is more convenient, as independent people helping their own.

But here is where the Cuban tyranny jumps and does everything that is in its powers to prevent those contacts to happen, since they would be the beginning of the demise of the tyranny, specially in these times of crisis. Luckily for the Castro's there's a sector of the political powers in the United States who would rather have a testicle burnt with sulphuric acid than seeing Cuban helping Cubans. For some strange political contortion they have bundled the embargo, the remittances, and the trips to Cuba together as if they were the same, when clearly they are not.

I would love to know why some sectors have to do the work of Castro, going against the Cuban family in the most inhuman ways of all. First of all, the extended Cuban family has been redefined by some bureaucrat to reduce it to parents and siblings. Then they decided to violate the rights of the citizens of this country -or at least of some of them- by limiting remittances and controlling travel. In the meantime, you could be an Iraqi and send money to your family in the old country or travel to it, when there's a war going on and terrorist groups operating in their territory. No limitations!

Oh, no... With Cuba it's different.
Some "Cubans" actually advise the United States against allowing Cubans to travel to the island, to send money to their relatives, and even against bringing legally to the United States members of their extended families. All with the excuse that otherwise that would be like writing a check to the Castros' piggy bank.

At this point, when Cubans need more help to survive the effects of the hurricanes, they face a lot of restrictions from every possible part, starting with the ones imposed on them by the tyranny, and ending with those who are imposing to them with the "goal of getting rid of the tyranny" while at the same time they become collaborators of the enslavement of the Cuban people by proxy and tyrants -no matter how petty and laughable- by conviction and vocation.

This is the right time to aid the Cuban people, and to question the Cuban tyranny as per its motivations to use the need of the Cuban people as a blackmail tool to pressure the international community and the United States. Also, we should be questioning the US government and its advisers about Cuba on why are they not declaring a humanitarian emergency on Cuba and using the armed forces to deliver the the tyranny refuses to accept, as it was done in Indonesia during the tsumani and in Myanmar during the monsoon. That would be an interest answer.... don't you think? The answer they will not give you is "because it would get rid of the Castros!". These politicians are not about to end their careers just because you want a free Cuba and much because your heart sinks when you see your countrymen starving.

One can safely say that a famine in the largest island in the Caribbean will generate an unprecedented exodus, and only a minority of the Cuban population will remain in the island: the ill, the elderly, the orphans, who are the weakest members of society, and a core of communists who are just going to exploit them even more. Cubans will have to flee to every corner of the world, again. Still, we will have American-Cubans saying "no money to Cuba" and "those newcomers are not like us, they are not political refugees" as if one could dislodge communism (politics, cause) from its disastrous result (economics, effect) It's also interesting to see how many countries offered shelter to deposed dictators of all stripes, but no country in the world demands from the Castros that they step down and live the country.

The famine to come will be even more disastrous than the effects of the hurricanes and the effects of 50 years of communism. Cuba will descend to the eight circle of hell -or literally disappear from the map- if we do not step forward and stop the politicos and the Cuban tyrants dead on their tracks, now.

American Embassy attacked in Yemen

One wonders about the duplicity (or is it dupe-icity?) of organizations such as the UN.
When the Myanmar Junta decided not to accept humanitarian aid not long ago, the "organization" let go a sight of dismay, and following some international outcry, kind of force fed humanitarian aid on Myanmar going counter-grain to the desires of the Junta.

With Cuba, well... The interim tyrant is perfecting the rejection art to levels unknown before the Myanmar Junta's little stunt, and he have surpassed the Asians at that game. When it comes to Cuba, the UN doesn't sight, it just take lovelorn glances to the (two) dictator(s) of the island and ignores the plight of the population.

At this point we better call The Hague and reserve twin cells for the Castros, and a whole slew of holding pens for the Generals. They can very well be accused of criminal embezzlement, crimes against the civilian population, genocide, and yes, ethnic cleansing for abandoning the population to their own fate. If it worked for the Balkans, I don't see why it doesn't work for Cuba. Maybe is the sun and the mojitos.

Also, it's very interesting to remember how the Navy dispatched aid loaded ships to Indonesia, Thailand, and Myanmar even when they were not very welcomed by those governments during the Tsunami and the recent disasters in Myanmar. But they don't go a mere few steps outside Guantanamo base to help the Cuban population in distress or send their ships to disembark all over Cuba with aid, which at the same time will effectively topple the regime. No. Apparently the beaches in Asia are more attractive.

At this point, the President of the United States owes some answers to the Cuban people, both from the island and in exile:

Why hasn't the Navy responded to the humanitarian crisis next door?
Why the American government has not pressured for the international repudiation of the Cuban Junta?
Why is that there's no operation in course to assist the Cuban population?
Why American vessels and planes are not touching land in Cuba to deliver help in spite the opposition of the tyranny?
Why aren't unarmed American soldiers delivering the much needed relief that the tyranny denies to the Cuban people?
Why the American government is not calling for the immediate arrest of the Castros and their top military and civilian cadres?
Where's the international pressure?

Any answers?
Silence is not an answer. Any lack of answers, evasive statements, and the such should be interpreted at their face value....

Going tribal

The politics of this country are going tribal, and for extension, the whole country is going tribal, even if some of us refuse to be part of any tribe.

Space, place, and pace of politics have become a tribal battleground. Look around, and you can see the war paint on their faces, hear their chants, and their feet stomping on the ground while they dance to the rhythm of political slogans.

The democratic party and the republican party are both going tribal.

Either you are an Obamunista, or a Clintonista, tribes that have reached a truce before they go cannibal on each other again. Wait and see. They already ate all the other tribes in their path, and want to force mental slavery on the survivors.

In the republican camp, either you are a Paulista (not related to Brazilian football) or you are a Georgian (related to the loyalists of King George) or Mac-Pal, or whatever else is in the spectrum. Now they have a wide cast of characters, that include Tancredistas, Newtonians, and reconstructed or unreconstructed Reaganistas. Ultimately, they have been all corralled under a big confederation of tribes, until they go mau-mau on each other.

In none of the camps is any space for what once was the pride of America: the independent thinker. No, they would love to wipe away any vestiges of individualism, and they would love to have you marching to the voting station in a very compact block. You cannot walk on the opposite sidewalk, even if you go in the same direction, you cannot walk alone if you chose to. No. They want you to be part of a large contingent, as your individuality didn't count. It really doesn't, at least not for the polticians. If they all carry black umbrellas you cannot carry one with psychedelic designs or with an abstract painting on it. You either part of one of the big tribes, or you are nihil.

I prefer to be nihil.

The political tribalization of this country will inevitably lead to its political trivialization in the international arena.

Of course Obama belongs to the ranks of those who deny help to his own, and he's not parting with his funds anytime soon to send a penny to Kenya.... because, why on Earth are they gonna buy with that money in Cuba, sorry I mean in Kenya?

I know for sure that both in Cuba and Kenya there are thriving black markets that allow the "natives" to live independently of the Castros, the Odingas, and the Obamas. And unless one's agenda is to perpetuate castroism, money really comes handy for Cubans (and Kenyans) in need.

El Herald carries a series of articles and several photo-galleries depicting the disasters in Cuba.
I wonder how people can contemplate these photographs an react with utter indifference and even think that is morally acceptable to deny help to Cubans, just because it doesn't go hand on hand with their doctrine of "starving the slaves to bankrupt the slave master" as KillCastro once famously said. Well, let me break the news to you, the tyranny is not a tad weaker because Cubans are suffering, it's easy to control destitute people, the hungry, the scared, the homeless and the needy, when the government send a few cops or soldiers on the streets their PR machine works wonders with their groupies.
Donate, whatever you can afford, to anyone in the affected areas in Cuba. Send money to your family, friends, and other relatives, and yes, keep the contact alive, now that they need you more than ever.
Never mind the "minders", they help their families here when we are hit by a hurricane. Do the same for your family and friends.
Now, tell me that this is not worse than Katrina in New Orleans and Mississippi.
Besides the wishful thinking of the "cubanologues" who are speculating about infight between fidel castro and his brother raul and those who see this as the culmination of the pressure cooker scheme, there's another current: those who fear that this will provoke a massive exodus of Cubans towards the United States.

The Cuban American National Foundation moved quickly in taking advantage of the new "aid rules".
They are sending direct help to Cuban families in dire straits -or the ones rendered homeless, since basically everyone in Cuba is dire straits- through Western Union.
The program will send a $100.00 gift that will make all the difference in the world for a family in distress, and which is something that we all can afford.
I wonder if this gesture is going to demonize Jorge Mas Santos and Joe Garcia even more.
Remember, the most important resource of a future free Cuba are its inhabitants, and those we need to help to survive today, so they can thrive tomorrow. They have carried the burden of living in a floating prison, but they will be the ones reconstructing the country in a future of freedom.

The images coming out of Cuba are simply horrifying.
Also horrifying is that a sector of people cannot understand that the devastation caused by those storms will not affect the tyranny on the most minimal level.
The people of Cuba is today poorer and more unprotected than they were a week ago.
Famine will reach the standards of an pandemic, and the lack of sanitary conditions can elevate exponentially the risk of an epidemic break-out. The population has to seek shelter in government facilities, thus being even more controlled by the repressive forces and the military. They thousands that are hungry and homeless are also powerless, and they are by no means able to revolt, as some proponents of the pressure cooker theory expect.
No, the armed forces are more in control now.
Their solid buildings are minimally affected.
Their food, fuel, and equipment supply has been replenished by the military of Russia and Venezuela, and they are ready to "assist" the Cuban people, which by the way implies to keep them under the heel of their boots.
The situation is ideal for the tyranny to survive:
The people of Cuba is famished, powerless, isolated, and depending on the government for everything.
Farming and other independent activities have been wiped off, by the forces of nature, therefore the regime "saved repressive resources", while being able to control the rationing of foods.
Cuba is now a big concentration camp. People have to scrounge for any food, and the government can control the masses -remember the theory of socialized misery- at ease.
In the meantime, politicians keep on politicking, turning their back to the Cuban people, without understanding that Cuba just left the leagues of Haiti, to join the category held by North Korea.
Remember Pol Pot's Cambodia?
Similar.
Just with a more refined killing fields system: the sea.
My prediction is that a mass exodus is about to happen.... once the hurricane season ends, we will see more desperate Cubans taking the seas.

It's not only those fine fellows who do whatever they need to do to keep you from helping your family in Cuba, even in these times of dire needs. Of course, they run to help their families here in the states even if un vientecito platanero blows a patio chair. But your family is not that great or that deserving of help, since hey, they live in Cuba and they should be starved as a matter of (their) principles to topple the dictatorship. They are not as good as their families, and y'all should know that well.
It happens that they are not alone.
They have a brother in B'rack Hussein Obama, the closet Muslim, who is also a star in that of turning his back to his own brother. Literally.

More hurricanes.

The season is far from over.
There are more hurricanes forming in the Atlantic, and given the regime of winds and streams in the area, they are likely to hit Cuba at one moment or another.
In the past, hurricanes of this category were not a disproportionate danger for the Cuban population. A few measures of caution here and there, to preserve lives, homes, cattle and agricultural fields, and Cubans could cope with the storms in a pretty much normal way, unless a real big one came with high winds and tidal waves. The loses were always minimal, and fixable with national resources.
Enter hurricanes fidel and raul. After 50 years of continuous destruction, the infrastructure of the country is so damaged that even category 1 hurricanes pose a huge danger to Cuba.
For example, take a look at this former luxury building in Miramar:

Look at the well preserved structures around it. The building is the Rio Mar, in Miramar, it's falling down. It sits at Primera and Zero, in Miramar, just on the waterfront. Imagine the effect of five story waves on this structure. Trivia fact: Porno Para Ricardo once rehearsed there.
Where the regular population lives is not a concern for the tyranny. And this is Havana, not a lost town in the middle of the Cuban coutryside, where nothing has been done in ages.
Then the worst danger happens when the sun starts shining again after the storms. The water that penetrated the structures start dilating the materials with the heat. The stability of the structures is severely compromised -taking into account that these buildings are miraculously standing afoot- and that's when most of the building collapses happen.
For an assessment on what's happening again in the country side just visit Yoani's blog. She's got a chronicle of what Hurricane Gustav did to Pinar del Rio, and how she participated in an effort to give some relief to the victims of the hurricane.
Again, trust no politician, from here or any representative of the tyranny from there to give relief to the Cuban population. Find your own ways to send help. Anything you can send is badly needed. In the meantime, the Cuban population suffers, while the tyranny rejects American help. The restrictions to send remittances and to travel to Cuba are still on. It's very clear that the only ones who care for the Cuban people are the individuals who give to them, and not those whose life seems to revolve around gazing their own navels and who spend time "politicking". Take the relief efforts in your own hands if you want to see a result.

Hurricane's out, hurricane's in

Cuba is being buffeted again by another hurricane, in addition of hurricane fidel and hurricane raul. This time around it's Ike. It has to be bad.... because it was under Ike's presidency that it was considered an ok idea to allow castro assault Cuban society and take power by force.

Under Ike's guard the revolutionary "tribunals" were instituted, and the destruction of Cuban society was implemented as a method of control of the population, laying the foundations for the longest dictatorship ever in modern history. A blind eye was turned to Cubans at that time, and another blind eye is turned to them as this time as well.

At this moment, we should keep on doing what we have been doing before: try to get help to Cubans in the island without the intervention of governments, politicians, and limelight seekers. Just find your way of sending some help to whoever in the island, and tell them to give some to an unknown from the areas in distress. The whole island, if you will, is in freaking distress, so that's not that difficult.

And remember, politicians, toilet-less dictators, drunken tyrants, and limelight seekers do not do favors.
They want something in exchange, usually your liberties.
Let's help Cubans in a truly Cuban fashion: the do it yourself fashion.

When he got hit with the bad news of the brain tumor, I felt a blow and I recognized for the first time, that that feeling of immortality that all teenagers have has vanished in me -the grown up.
My first writing act of today was to write a short note to Bob to wish him a fast recovery, but since I forgot to ask Bob permission to reproduce in this blog his first post-operatory column, I will link it for your reading pleasure.

From the Cuban Underground, a Punk Rocker’s Protest Reverberates

SOME people march to protest their government. Gorki Luis Águila Carrasco, the lead singer of a Cuban punk rock group called Porno para Ricardo (“Porn for Ricardo”), vents his discontent by gyrating at a microphone, clutching an electric guitar and spewing out some of the most off-color, ear-splitting lyrics around.

Amid the string of expletives that he bellows in his underground concerts in and around Havana are bold criticisms of Fidel and Raúl Castro, the past and present leaders of the island. So outspoken has he become that the authorities recently charged him with “social dangerousness” and hauled him off to jail.

Turns out, though, he will sing again. After his detention drew international outrage, including a condemnation from the Bush administration, the Cuban authorities dropped the charge, which could have led to four years in prison. Instead they convicted him of public disorder and fined him 600 pesos, or $28 — more than a month’s salary in Cuba.

“I feel even more hate for this tyranny,” Gorki, as he is universally known, said to reporters after he was freed. He then likened his release to walking from a small jail cell into a larger one.

With a mane of curly black hair that is as wild as his persona, Gorki is by no means the only outspoken artist in Cuba. Other rebellious singers and painters, though, are more discreet when it comes to the upper crust of the Cuban leadership. They criticize the system in a way that does not get too personal.

Not so Gorki, who rails against Cuban Communism, scoffs at the revolution and lambastes in no uncertain terms Fidel Castro, who turned 82 last month, and his younger brother, Raúl, 77, the longtime defense minister who took over the presidency in February after Fidel fell ill. And Gorki does all of it in a near scream.

“The Comandante holds elections, which he’s invented to keep power,” he says of Fidel Castro in “El Comandante,” one of his signature songs. “The Comandante wants me to go vote so he can keep [expletive] my life.”

In a shout, he sings: “The Comandante wants me to work and he pays me a miserable salary. The Comandante wants me to applaud after he’s spoken his delirious [expletive]. Don’t eat [expletive], Comandante, for you are a tyrant and no one can stand you.”

Gorki has received backing from more traditional critics of the government, such as Elizardo Sánchez, who leads an unauthorized human rights group that Havana tolerates, and Yoani Sánchez, an outspoken blogger who wrote recently of Gorki, “he sings, sways and shouts in his bloody rock lyrics what others mutter with fear.”

THE Cuban government has remained quiet about Gorki’s recent legal troubles. Some supporters have spoken up, though. Walter Lippmann, an American who runs an e-mail news service that collects material critical of Washington’s embargo on Cuba, recently wrote, “He helps clarify the precise meaning of the word ‘punk’ in the term ‘punk rock.’ ”

Gorki’s recent jail stint was not his first. In 2003 he was convicted on a drug charge and spent nearly two years in custody. He condemns that arrest as a setup by a young woman who pretended to be a fan but really worked for state security. In that case, he emerged from custody even angrier than before.

A self-taught musician and the father of a preteen girl, Gorki, 39, once told an interviewer that he grew up listening to American and English rock, particularly Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and the Clash. “My dad never liked rock ’n’ roll,” he said, “and since he knew that this type of music brought me problems, he used to advise me to listen to other bands.”

His mother, an outspoken critic of the government, and his older sister left Cuba years ago for Mexico. Gorki married while he was in jail in 2003 so that he and his wife could have conjugal visits. They are separated now but share time with their 12-year-old daughter, Gabriella. “I try to tell her who I am, why I say the things I say,” he said.

A decade ago, he organized Porno para Ricardo — named for a friend who loved pornography but could not get enough of it because of a government ban.

At a recent concert Ricardo himself, a 50-ish man who dresses like a transient, arrived pushing a bicycle and carrying a half-empty bottle of rum. He quickly became the life of the party.

Gorki’s words are not the only rebellious thing about him. He had his nose pierced and often wears a T-shirt that calls 1959, the year of the Cuban revolution, a “year of error.” He was named after Maxim Gorky, the Russian author and founder of literary Socialist Realism.

The band’s raucous rehearsals take place in the small apartment in the Playa neighborhood of Havana that Gorki shares with his 75-year-old father, Luis. The place is devoid of furniture, and the room in the back where the band gathers has egg boxes on the walls to help reduce the noise.

Concerts are held on the sly. Word of the next performance is spread through text messages or whispers. A few months back, it was in a remote location on the outskirts of the capital.

The group arrived at 5 p.m. to warm up. A few hours later nearly 100 people had gathered, most of them young counterculture types who knew the words to song after song.

One of the teenagers in the crowd, who wore a Nirvana T-shirt, identified himself only as Daniel and said he was an aspiring punk rocker himself. Porno para Ricardo is one of the few bands in Cuba that has the guts to tell the truth, he said.

The group played for about two hours, taking one short break to allow a band member, Herbert Domínguez, to vomit off to the side — the result, it appeared, of too much rum.

“I am against everything that limits my personal liberty,” Gorki declared in an interview this year. “The level of unpopularity of the Castro tyranny is so great. It’s obvious. You breathe it. It’s dense. But the people are afraid.”

GORKI does not appear afraid. His recent songs include one called “Dinosaurs,” which refers to the Cuban leadership. Another, “El General,” lambastes Raúl Castro as a farce. After his release from prison, he told a reporter that he was at work on a follow-up to “El Comandante,” the song about Fidel Castro, which will be called “El Comandante II.”

Although Gorki is the front man, his fellow band members — Ciro Díaz Penedo on guitar, Renay Kayrus on drums and Mr. Dominguez on bass — are similarly rebellious. As a logo for their group, they use a Soviet hammer and sickle transformed into a pornographic image.

While Gorki was in jail, Mr. Díaz attended a concert of Pablo Milanés, a noted and far more conventional singer-songwriter, to press for his bandmate’s release. He and some friends unveiled a banner that said “GORKI” and began shouting the singer’s name. A dozen or more men in plain clothes moved in quickly, according to witnesses, pummeled Mr. Díaz and another man and whisked them away to a police station for questioning.

That episode prompted a response from the Bush administration, which has made no secret of its disdain for the Castro brothers.

“We condemn the regime’s violent attack on peaceful concert-goers and arrest of Mr. Águila,” Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, who left Cuba as a boy with his family in 1960, said of Gorki. Mr. Gutierrez said the authorities’ actions violated the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Raúl Castro signed just days after replacing Fidel in February.

Left unsaid by Mr. Gutierrez was whether he had ever listened to Gorki’s music.
